Meet John Dessauer
John Dessauer is America's foremost authority on global investing. John was born in 1936, in upstate New York. His father, German by birth, came to America in 1929. John's mother grew up in the tri-state area of southern New York. The senior Mr. Dessauer (John H.) was head of Research and Engineering for Haloid Corporation, developer of modern xerography (see his 1971 memoir, "My Years at Xerox: The Billions Nobody Wanted.")
Growing up amid great American business success stories like Xerox, Eastman Kodak and IBM, young John came to see the value of buying shares of growing, fundamentally sound businesses. Even during his college years (with degrees in Physics and Law), he was a successful private investor at a young age, and one of his first tasks as a young lawyer was to manage large trusts.
While working for Citibank in the early 1970s, he managed the bank's stock portfolios so successfully that he rose rapidly in Citi's ranks to become Senior Investment Officer in Citibank-Europe, at age 38, in 1974. He was stationed in Zurich from 1974 to 1978.
Upon returning to the U.S., Mr. Dessauer managed a billion-dollar trust, using his unique expertise in overseas investing. Then, in 1980, he moved to Cape Cod and launched "Dessauer's Journal of Financial Markets," which became one of the best-performing investment newsletters of the 1980s and 1990s. In 1993, he went into partnership with InvestorPlace Media, LLC, and his "Journal" became "John Dessauer's Investor's World."
